NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department announced that a man has been arrested in connection with the investigation of a fatal shooting that happened in the Lower Ninth Ward in April.

On April 21, the NOPD reported officers responded to a call of a man down in the 6000 block of St. Claude Avenue, where they found 39-year-old Roderick Thomas unresponsive in an alley.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following an investigation, NOPD detectives said they identified 37-year-old Kerry Shelby as the suspect.

On Tuesday, May 7, NOPD officers arrested Shelby. He faces charges of second-degree murder.
