COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — A Covington man and woman have been indicted in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in Lacombe in 2023.

On Dec. 26, 2023, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office reported deputies responded to a gas station in the 2800 block of U.S. Highway 190, where they found 23-year-old Juwarren Martin suffering with a gunshot wound.

He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

On Jan. 25, the STPSO and U.S. Marshals New Orleans Task Force detectives said they identified 25-year-old Marrio Haynes Jr. as a suspect in the investigation.

According to the STPSO, an investigation revealed Haynes and his girlfriend, identified by the sheriff’s office as 21-year-old Megan Coleman, were arguing when the shooting happened.

Coleman was arrested.

On Feb. 28, Haynes was arrested in connection with the investigation after U.S. Marshals Task Forces reportedly found him at a Kentwood home. STPSO officials said Coleman was taken back into custody that day after she was released on bond.

On Wednesday, May 15, the Office of District Attorney Collin Sims reported Haynes and Coleman were indicted by a grand jury on charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.

Sims said Haynes was also indicted on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
