JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Metairie man has been convicted for a second time in a child rape case on Wednesday, May 8.
According to the Office of District Attorney Paul Connick Jr., a Jefferson Parish jury found 44-year-old Charles Turner guilty of aggravated rape of a juvenile under age 13.
The district attorney’s office reported the sexual abuse started when the victim was 8 years old in 2013 and went on for two years.
Connick said Turner was convicted of the crime and sentenced to life in prison in November 2017 but received a new trial in 2020 after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling deemed non-unanimous jury verdicts unconstitutional.
On Wednesday, May 8, the jury returned its unanimous guilty verdict after deliberating for more than three hours.
Turner’s sentencing is scheduled for May 29.
