JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Metairie man has been sentenced in a child rape case on Wednesday, May 29.
According to the Office of District Attorney Paul Connick Jr., 44-year-old Charles Turner was sentenced to life in prison for a second time for aggravated rape.
The district attorney’s office reported the sexual abuse happened over a span of two years, starting when the victim was 8 years old in 2013.
Connick said a jury found Turner guilty of aggravated rape in November 2017, but he received a new trial in 2020 after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling deemed non-unanimous jury verdicts unconstitutional.
On Wednesday, May 8, a Jefferson Parish jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict.
Turner was sentenced to life in prison without parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
