JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A New Orleans man, who was found guilty of fatally shooting a robbing a Gretna barber shop owner in 2021, was sentenced.
Officials with the Office of District Attorney Paul Connick Jr. said a judge sentenced 38-year-old Raymond Lee to life in prison on Thursday, March 7.
According to court documents, on Dec. 5, 2021, Jefferson Parish deputies responded to a 911 call from a motel in the 2200 block of the Westbank Expressway, where they found the body of Alonzo “Zo” Wiley.
Court documents state Lee shot Wiley five times during an armed robbery at the motel.
An investigation revealed that Wiley had reportedly been tricked into letting Lee into the motel room when he attempted to rob him.
The district attorney’s office reported that Wiley tried to get away before he was shot three times.
According to district attorney’s office, Lee shot Wiley two more times before leaving with his items.
Through the course of the investigation, deputies with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s found physical evidence and cell phone data linking Lee to the shooting. They also conducted interviews.
On Feb. 2, Lee was found guilty of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
On March 7, the district attorney’s office reported Lee was sentenced to life in prison without parole or suspension of sentence for the second-degree murder charge, 40 years for the obstruction of justice charge and 20 years for the convicted felon in possession of a firearm charge.
