NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A New Orleans musician has been identified as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened in the Seventh Ward on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

The NOPD reported officers responded to the crash at the intersection of North Claiborne and Elysian Fields avenues around 12 a.m.

According to police, a man was driving a sedan west on North Claiborne Avenue when he hit a pedestrian.

He was pronounced dead en route to a local hospital.

The NOPD later identified 21-year-old Jeremy Lindsey as the driver of the sedan.

On Thursday, the Orleans Parish coroner identified the victim as 53-year-old New Orleans musician Kerry Hunter.

Hunter played in New Orleans brass bands and won a Grammy in 2021, when he played with the New Orleans Nightcrawlers.

According to the NOPD, Lindsey was arrested and faces charges of vehicular homicide and hit-and-run driving.

The investigation is ongoing.
