NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A New Orleans police officer fired a shot at a person during an incident in the Fontainebleau neighborhood on Thursday, Jan. 25.
A spokesperson for the New Orleans Police Department said the incident happened around 12:17 a.m. at the corner of College Court and Earhart Boulevard. Officers responded to the call of another officer needing assistance.
Investigators said that officers found a vehicle at the location matching the description of a stolen vehicle. As the officer approached, an unresponsive teenage boy was found sleeping in the running vehicle with what appeared to be a gun in his waistband.
After several attempts to wake him up, the teen woke up and attempted to drive off, nearly striking several officers.
During the incident, the NOIPD reported an officer fired a shot at the vehicle, missing the teen. He wasn’t hit but suffered minor injuries from a broken glass window and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Upon release, the teen will be arrested and booked into the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center for resisting a police officer with force or violence, juvenile in possession of a firearm
and three counts of aggravated assault upon a peace officer with a motor vehicle.
This is an ongoing investigation.
