JUNE 21 UPDATE: On Monday, the New Orleans Coroner identified the victim in this incident as 41-year-old Terrence Causey.

The preliminary cause of death is listed as gunshot wounds.

On June 17, the NOPD arrested 59-year-old Darryl Thomas for second-degree murder in the homicide of Causey.


NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — On Wednesday night, the NOPD began investigating a homicide by shooting.

Fifth District Officers received a call of an aggravated battery by shooting, shortly before 10:30 p.m.

Detectives responded to the 1600 block of Elysian Fields Avenue, where they discovered a male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Accord to NOPD, the victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
