NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans police arrested a man in connection to a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian dead in the Central Business District.

Officials with the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) said the crash happened around 5:33 a.m. on Sunday, May 14 at the intersection of Canal and North Rampart streets.

They said the victim was found lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified the involved vehicle as a white Chevrolet Camaro, which was later found abandoned in Metairie.

NOPD officials said 29-year-old Troy Alvis Jr. was identified as the suspect. Officers arrested him on Monday, May 15.

He faces charges of hit-and-run causing death or serious injury, obstruction of justice and reckless operation of a vehicle.
