NOPD investigating crash involving school bus in Lower Ninth Ward

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Officers with the New Orleans Police Department are investigating a hit-and-run crash involving a school bus in the Lower Ninth Ward on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

According to the NOPD, a car hit the bus at the intersection of Gordon and N. Galvez streets.

Chief of Staff for InspireNOLA schools, Kevin Barnes, Jr., told WGNO in an email that the bus was carrying three students from McDonogh 35 Senior High School.

Barnes said that “currently all students are safe.”

The NOPD reported that the three students refused treatment from EMS, but that one student went to a hospital in a private car.

As for the two people in the car that struck the bus, police say that they both ran from the car after the crash, and one was struck by another car as he fled. That man was taken to a hospital by EMS.

The NOPD set up a perimeter around the area to search for the second man, but the search was unsuccessful.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the crash can call NOPD Fifth District detectives at (504)-658-6050 or Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at (504)-822-1111.
