NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating two separate shootings that left one dead and sent another to the hospital.

Around 8:15 Tuesday (Feb. 22), the NOPD responded to the intersection of North Roman Street and Ursulines Avenue in the Lower Ninth Ward.

We’re told a male victim was transported to an area hospital by EMS after he was found suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim’s age and the severity of his injuries were not disclosed.

Less than 90 minutes later, police began investigating another shooting — this time in the Seventh Ward. Police believe the shooting happened in the 1400 block of North Claiborne Avenue.

Detectives say a woman arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound shortly after 9:30 p.m. The victim died soon after. The Orleans Parish Coroner later identified the woman to be 50-year-old Nicole Williams.

On Wednesday morning, the NOPD announced the arrest of 29-year-old Raychell White. She was booked into the Orleans Justice Center on a second-degree murder charge in Williams’ death.

Both shootings remain under investigation. Anyone with any information is urged to contact the NOPD immediately.
