Officer-involved shooting leaves suspect wounded following search warrant in Hammond

HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — Officials with the Hammond Police Department said all officers involved have been put on administrative leave while the investigation continues.

HPD officials said the suspect, Lionell Jackson, 41, of Hammond, remains at North Oaks Medical Center and will be booked once released.

Jackson reportedly had two active charges for distribution of schedule II narcotics for more than 600 suspected fentanyl pills. Following the recent incident, HPD officials said Jackson will be charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule II narcotics, obstruction of justice, five counts of possession of legend drugs and possession of a firearm while in the presence of controlled dangerous substance.


HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — A suspect was shot reportedly by the Hammond Police Department during the execution of a search warrant on Saturday, July 15.

Officials with the HPD say the incident happened around 6:00 a.m. on Natchez Street when officers with the narcotics division were executing a narcotics-based search warrant.

At some point, the alleged suspect was shot and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

There are no updates on his condition at this time.

The shooting remains under investigation.
