Orleans Parish District Attorney formally charges Dean Kelly for alleged past sex crimes

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office announced Friday, May 10 that former New Orleans model Dean Kelly has been formally charged in the case of a 2023 attempted rape case against him.

According to the district attorney’s office, the Specials Victim Unit filed formal sexual battery and attempted simple rape charges against Kelly for alleged predatory acts following his release for past sex crimes. 

On Dec. 7, 2023, 52-year-old Kelly was arrested on charges of attempted third-degree rape and sexual battery from an October incident.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, the former model, who made a cameo in an Aerosmith video, was accused in 2011 of preying on young women around Uptown universities.

 As a result, he was charged with alleged forcible rape and kidnapping to which he pled guilty to lower charges and was released.

Following his release, he allegedly violated his parole, according to police, was rearrested and held on a $1 million bond which was ultimately revoked and he was sent to Rayburn Correctional Center in Washington Parish.

Additionally, documents note that Kelly faces charges for failing to fulfill registration obligations, including not registering his BMW X5 or providing notification of his sex offender status on social media.

OPDA Special Victims Unit is encouraging the public and potential victims of Kelly to report any contact made with Kelly via dating apps and social media sites as documents note that he is suspected of using social media to to conceal his identity.

The district attorney’s office is asking that anyone who may have been targeted by Kelly’s acts to call 911 or visit their district precinct.
