NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Officers with the New Orleans Police Department report that part of the Crescent City Connection was shut down on Thursday, Feb. 22, as part of a deadly shooting investigation.
The NOPD reported officers were alerted of a shooting after a 23-year-old man, arrived at a hospital in a private car around 12:44 p.m., suffering from a gunshot wound.
An investigation revealed the shooting happened on U.S. 90 West, past the Tchoupitoulas Street exit ramp.
Officers said the victim was a passenger in the vehicle when a sedan with an unknown number of suspects inside began to shoot.
Two other people were also in the car but police say they were not injured during the incident.
According to the NOPD, the victim was originally listed in “grave condition” but later died from his wounds.
Officers say they have ruled out “road rage” as a cause of the shooting.
The CCC westbound from the St. Charles Avenue exit ramp was shut down and reopened around 4:21 p.m.
Initially, the NOPD classified the investigation as a homicide, later clarified it was a nonfatal shooting, but later reported the victim had died.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after an autopsy is done and the family is notified.
