COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — Five teenagers were arrested following a police chase through Covington on July 12.
According to officers with the Covington Police Department, early that Friday morning, they attempted to pull over a vehicle seen driving without lights in a residential area, an alleged burglary tactic, near West 28th Avenue and North Tyler Street.
Instead of pulling over, the driver reportedly sped off, leading officers on a chase onto Interstate 12 and Interstate 55, resulting in the Louisiana State Police and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office getting involved.
Officers said the vehicle eventually stopped on Wardline Road, but five people all wearing gloves and masks got out and ran away.
An investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Tangipahoa Parish.
The following were arrested and booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center:
- A 16-year-old girl — possession of stolen property, aggravated flight and resisting an officer (by foot).
- A 15-year-old boy — possession of stolen property, aggravated flight and resisting an officer (by foot), vehicle theft.
- A 14-year-old boy and two 16-year-old boys — two charges of vehicle theft and aggravated flight from an officer (by foot).
Covington police say they are actively investigating the crime with charges pending for all suspects.
Anyone living in the West 30s community who suspects they may have been burglarized is asked to call Covington police at 985-892-8500.
