GONZALES, La. (WGNO) – A Gonzales teacher was arrested Wednesday for reportedly having sex with a 17-year-old student, WBRZ reports.

According to WBRZ, police in Gonzales arrested Louis Carl Aguillard, 34, a health teacher and assistant athletic trainer at East Ascension High School.

Aguillard was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges of malfeasance in office and two counts of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and student.

Ascension Parish Schools Superintendent A. Denise Graves issued the following statement after Aguillard’s arrest:

“The safety of our students is of the utmost importance to our district. Please know that the Ascension Parish School Board requires a criminal background check prior to employment and has a zero tolerance policy in regards to inappropriate contact between students and staff.”
