SLIDELL, La (WGNO) –– Two men are dead after a standoff with St. Tammany Parish deputies Monday evening.

Detectives say 48-year-old Richard Sanderson and 67-year-old Eric Costello were both pronounced dead.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office reports around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, a SWAT team was dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Lake Village Boulevard in Slidell.

According to the parish coroner, Costello was listed as a resident of the location. Sanderson was listed under a Mandeville address.

Deputies say they received a 911 call from someone in the home. When responding officers arrived, detectives attempted to communicate with someone inside the home, but the subject barricaded himself inside. The SWAT team was then dispatched.

Negotiators made contact with one male inside the home after arriving on the scene. He told them he had exchanged gunfire with another male acquaintance inside the home.

The SWAT team entered the home and discovered two deceased subjects. They say one appeared to have self-inflicted gunshot wounds, however, the coroner continues to conduct an official autopsy.

The investigation remains ongoing.
