Suspect wanted, accused of Independence church burglary

INDEPENDENCE, La. (WGNO) — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect accused of burglarizing a church in Independence.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards said on Monday, April 8, deputies responded to a burglary alarm at Faith Temple Church on Fontana Road around 5:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, deputies found a door forced open in the back of the church.

Officers said after reviewing security footage, a person was seen breaking into the door with a pry bar. The suspect was seen wandering the church opening doors until the alarm sounded.

As the alarm sounded, he ran out the door and fled in his vehicle, a maroon SUV believed to be a Jeep Compass, according to officers.
