NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a chase and crash that left four injured in Algiers.

NOPD leaders said officers conducted a traffic stop around 4 p.m. on a red two-door Audi car at the intersection of General Meyer Avenue and Kabel Drive.

According to officers, the car matched the description of a car sought in the investigation of a March 18 homicide in the 3000 block of General Meyer Avenue.

The driver allegedly did not stop and fled the scene.

NOPD leaders said officers then requested and received approval to pursue the vehicle.

The pursuit ended at the intersection of MacArthur Boulevard and Kabel Drive when the Audi crashed with a silver SUV.

The SUV was occupied by an off-duty police officer and two children. The officer was not involved in the pursuit.

All three people in the SUV car were taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

No further details were provided. This is an ongoing investigation.
