NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Bustout Burlesque is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year.

Our video journalist Alyson Titkemeyer talked to two performers about their desire to inspire female audiences, as well as male audiences.

“We want the girls to be like, ‘Yes, I want to be her friend. She rocks!’” says Miss Stormy Gayle.

The New Orleans native was one of the first cast members of Bustout Burlesque. She’s back for a special show Friday (April 10) at the House of Blues New Orleans.

Another performer that night will be Athena, aka the “Goddess of the Bodice.” Athena has appeared with Bustout Burlesque for the last 9 years.

“I like when couples come, and the women leave here so inspired to go home to their men and do whatever it is they do,” she says.

Adding, she loves to be a burlesque performer because it allows her to be free. “I can create a whole other persona or ten other personas with each act I do.”

That freedom can be seen in everything the women do onstage.

“We’re producing our own acts and it’s giving the dancers the opportunity to be who they want to be. They can tell their story,” Stormy Gayle says.
