NEW ORLEANS, LA (WGNO) — Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her 90th birthday this year, making her the longest reigning monarch in British history and the only one to ever reach the age of 90.
Across the pond, celebrations are well underway. In New Orleans, a famed hotel and antique store are teaming up for some opulent offerings… if you can afford them.
The Windsor Court Hotel has created a $90,000 dessert! Sound expensive? Wait until you hear what you get.
The ‘Crown Jewel’ is a dark chocolate fondant cake, encrusted with edible 24K gold and topped with Cristal champagne sauce infused with raspberries and passion fruit.
The decadent dessert is then garnished with gold-dusted berries and a golden-chocolate crunch.
The centerpiece of this masterful confection from Pastry Chef Shun Li?
A 3.95 carat Ruby and Diamond Ring from M.S. Rau Antiques.
If you’re interested, orders must be placed 3 days in advance.
For those who want to extend the elegant experience beyond drinks and dessert, the hotel is also offering three royal birthday packages, ranging in price from $2,779 to $119,260.
They call it ‘A Royal Stay’ at Windsor Court.
They begin with round-trip airport transfers, welcome amenities, daily breakfasts, a tasting dinner in The Grill Room and royal tea in Le Salon.
Packages may also include three nights in the Presidential Suite or two nights in a Club Premium Riverview Suite, a private tour of M.S. Rau Antiques, complete with champagne lunch, and a private Day at The Spa at Windsor Court.
For folks who don’t have a royal budget, try out ‘The Queen’s Prerogative.’
Crafted by Kent Westmoreland, head mixologist at Cocktail Bar at Windsor Court, this twist on the queen’s regular lunchtime cocktail features gin, Dubonnet, Maraschino juice, orange and Angostura bitters, and orange peel garnish.
The Queen’s Prerogative cocktail will set you back $12.
