BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey was parodied in a recent episode of Saturday Night Live.

SNL cast member Heidi Gardner portrayed Mulkey in a skit making fun of the NCAA March Madness show on CBS and TNT. In the skit, Charles Barkley, Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith discuss how the women’s tournament has become more popular than the men’s.

Long-time cast member Kenan Thompson played Charles Barkley and acted disinterested in the men’s championship. Kenny Smith, played by SNL’s Devon Walker, said the women’s tournament was where “the action’s at.”

Gardner appeared as Mulkey wearing a bright pink jacket.

“I got this custom-made. I just told them, ‘Make me look like The Riddler went to Talbot’s,'” Gardner said imitating Mulkey’s Louisiana accent.

Ernie Johnson, played by James Austin Johnson, asked about Mulkey being too hard on players.

Gardner made a joke about Mulkey’s facial expressions and said, “I work my girls hard every day. I make them run 10 miles breathing in Louisiana swamp gas.”

Gardner’s Mulkey character was asked who she thought would win the NCAA men’s tournament and appeared to not know who was playing.

“Oh, uh. Northern Southern State,” she said.

The skit also made fun of LSU’s Elite Eight loss to Iowa and Caitlin Clark.

“She is tough, and that’s why her teams always win, except for this year when they lost,” Thompson’s Barkley character said.
