Rapper Curren$y and We Dat’s restaurant owner show thanks with turkey giveaway

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — They didn’t ask any reporters to come.  They weren’t looking for any attention.

In fact, we just happened to see the big truck, a Rolls-Royce, and two friends who were hoping to quietly make a difference for a crowd of people this Thanksgiving.

It was the afternoon before Thanksgiving.  When we stopped, we saw the rapper Curren$y and his friend, We Dat’s Chicken and Shrimp restaurant owner Gregoire Tillery, handing out turkeys and hugs in the 1400 block of Canal Street.

Every person walked away with their hands full and a smile on their face.

The pair said they are thankful for their successes and they wanted to show their appreciation for their fans, both of their food and music.

They have huge followings on social media, and that’s how they let people know about the turkey giveaway.

“We’re doing a turkey giveaway for all the people who come to the restaurant and support me,” Tillery said.

“Everybody’s supposed to have Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, and we’re trying to make sure,” Curren$y added.
