Landry’s Feed Store in Rayne destroyed by fire

RAYNE, La. (KLFY) – A popular landmark in Rayne has been destroyed after an early morning fire.

Landry’s Feed Store celebrated its 70th anniversary last month, but the Rayne staple was devastated by a large fire this morning. Just after 6 a.m., Rayne firefighters received a call about flames coming from the side of Landry’s feed store. Erick Bourque, a long-time customer says he saw the flames.

“I seen the flames. I had to call the fire trucks.”

One of the owners, Ken Landry, says when he got the call, he was told the entire building was in flames within an hour. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but the chemicals, fertilizers and hay most likely contributed to the intensity of the fire.

Rayne Mayor Chuck Robicheaux says the flames were so large, neighboring fire departments came to assist in putting out the fire.

“It was so overwhelming, other departments, I heard Mire branch and Scott for sure that came out to assist us,” said Mayor Robicheaux.

Pictures sent to KLFY News 10 show smoke bellowing from the feed store.

People in the community say losing a landmark like Landry’s is disheartening. “The community is going to miss Landry’s if it doesn’t come back, but we hope it does.”
