Five Happiness Chinese Restaurant’s Paggy Lee is the star of Nyx parade

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – She’s the star already at her New Orleans Chinese restaurant Five Happiness.

Her name is Paggy Lee.  And yes, that’s the way she spells her name.  With an “a” and not an “e”.

She’s been running the restaurant since 1978.  And she’s a charter member of the Mardi Gras Mystic Krewe of Nyx.  It’s one of the all female krewes.

WGNO News with a Twist features guy Wild Bill Wood went to Five Happiness to find out what makes Paggy Lee so happy and to discover how she’s getting ready to be grand marshal of the Nyx parade.

The parade is Wednesday, February 3 at 7 pm.  It’s an uptown parade that follows the traditional route downtown to Canal Street.

The krewe follows Nyx, the goddess of night.  Nyx was one of the most powerful goddesses in Greek mythology.  Even Zeus was a little afraid of her and her power.

According to mythology, Nyx allows her dark light to fall from the stars.  And she’s able to dictate to men and also the other gods.

The Krewe of Nyx is known for what they throw out at their parades.  They throw purses.

Not just any purses will do for Nyx.  Their purses are glitter covered, jeweled, loved and decorated purses.

Paggy Lee is ready with her purses.  And she has a few other surprises to throw as Wild Bill Wood wants you to see.
