Actor Hugh Jackman announced Monday he’s being treated for skin cancer. The Wolverine star has a bandage over his nose in a photo he shared to Instagram and Twitter.
“An example of what happens when you don’t wear sunscreen. Basal Cell. The mildest form of cancer but serious, nonetheless. PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups,” the 47-year-old wrote in the caption.
This isn’t the first time Jackman has been treated for skin cancer. According to PEOPLE, it’s the fourth procedure on his nose and the third time he’s warned his followers of the dangers of skin cancer.
The actor was first treated for basal cell carcinoma in November 2013. Saying “[His wife] Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a basil cell carcinoma. Please don’t be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”
He posted a second photo in May 2014 saying, “Another Basel Cell Carsinoma. All out now. Thanks Dr. Albom and Dr. Arian. PLEASE! PLEASE! WEAR SUNSCREEN!”
In an interview with PEOPLE last year, Jackman said he was shocked to learn of his diagnosis.
“It’s always a bit of a shock just hearing the word ‘cancer,’ ” he said. “Being an Australian it’s a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it.”
Basal-cell carcinoma is the most common form of cancer, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Almost 3 million cases are diagnosed in the U.S. each year.
