New Orleans (WGNO)–The Humane Society of Louisiana has partnered with Rescue Bank, Lovers not Biters Dog Rescue and Inner Pup of New Orleans to host a pet food distribution event to support local animal rescue groups and humane organizations.

The dog food has been donated by pet food manufacturers and coordinated for distribution by Rescue Bank, which does similar dog food distribution events in Baton Rouge and Houston. Those accepting food are asked to give a modest donation of $4.00 for a 55 lb bag to defray some of the shipping costs.

“We hope to give local rescue and humane groups a big break on the cost of feeding their dogs this month, by providing a lot of food for a very modest donation. We know that summer months are difficult for many non-profits, because charitable giving is at its lowest point of the year, but we all still want to provide our life-saving work and programs. We hope to help the local rescue community, in some small way, by hosting this distribution event,” says Jeff Dorson, HSL Director.

The Humane Society expects about one dozen groups to take participate in today’s event. Media representatives are invited to attend throughout the event.

Established in 1988, the Humane Society of Louisiana is one of the state’s largest animal protection agencies and operates the Enoch J. Donaldson Animal Sanctuary in Mt. Hermon. For more information, visit its website at www.humanela.org or call 1-888-6-HUMANE.
