NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A church is a chamber. Right?
So, that makes it a great stage for chamber music.
That’s what an audience of pre-school kids got to hear at Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church.
WGNO News with a Twist features reporter Wild Bill Wood says the kids got more than their ears full.
They got a music lesson and a vocabulary lesson.
The New Orleans kids got the lesson from a group of New York City musicians. They’re the Manhattan Chamber Players.
Their artistic director is Luke Fleming.
Wild Bill asks Luke, what is chamber music?
Luke says, “it’s music that originated in the chambers of European royalty back in the 17th century.”
How about applause?
For that Wild Bill finds a five-year-old in the audience by the name of Michael.
Michael knows applause.
He says, “it’s when you clap your hands, around and around and around and round, round, round.”
That’s applause.
That’s the kind of applause you’ll hear at the Crescent City Chamber Music Festival in New Orleans.
