KENNER – Firefighters responded to a two-alarm apartment fire near Rivertown this morning.
The Kenner Fire Department got the call around 10 a.m. on December 11. They got the fire out about 40 minutes later.
Fire crews found two apartments engulfed in flames at the Malcom Kenner Apartment complex in the 800 block of Reverend Richard Wilson Drive.
Two injuries reported on the scene, but firefighters say everyone was able to get out of the building. One man burnt his arm, another was treated for smoke inhalation.
Smoke could be seen pouring from the two apartments around 10:30 a.m. as firefighters surveyed the damage.
The downstairs apartment was a total loss, charred down to the frame in some spots. Patricia Funtenberry, who lived there, told WGNO that she has no insurance and she has no idea what she’s going to do. She says this is incredibly devastating, especially around the holidays.
“I have nothing but the clothes on my back,” Funtenberry broke down into tears. “I’m lost. I’m hurt… Not only for me, but my neighbors.”

The fire department is still investigating the cause of this blaze.
