COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) – Three teens at Covington High School were rushed to the emergency room Thursday afternoon after becoming sick at the same time.
First responders were dispatched to the school around 1 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive student, according to the Covington Police Department. Before help arrived, Chief Tim Lentz says a second student was reported to be unresponsive.
About an hour later a third student was said to have had a medical emergency.
Their medical condition will not be release at this time, but Covington Fire Department Assistant Chief Steven Michell told NOLA.com that the teens do not have life-threatening injuries.
Covington police confirmed that two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old were sent to the hospital and are undergoing treatment for a suspected drug overdose.
Covington police would not say what the students overdosed on. They just said, “early information suggests a possible drug overdose.”
Medical officials are trying to determine what caused the students to become ill, but according to Chief Michell a first responder heard one student say they might have taken a synthetic marijuana called, Mojo.
