NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Pontchartrain Beach could re-open by next year, but there’s a slight hiccup. The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation needs 17,000 tons of sand moved from the industrial canal to the beach.
The foundation says that will cost about $40,000. For the foundation to stay on schedule, they need the money by April 30th.
The beach near UNO has eroded over time. The sand will be used to expand it.
The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation is asking for help raising the funds needed. Click here to learn how to donate.
