NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)– The Supreme Court’s ruling is a victory for love in Louisiana and across the nation. People headed to Jackson Square Friday evening to celebrate a big win for the LGBT community.
“Couples here who have been waiting a long time to have their day at the altar….,” Brandon Robb, attorney, Delaney & Robb, said. “… To solemnize their relationship get married now have according to the Supreme Court this morning the constitutional right to do that.”
The Supreme Court’s ruling means people of all sexual orientations can get married no matter where they live in the country!
“I think it’s just an amazing statement by the American people,” Andrea Rubin, attorney, Delaney& Robb, stated. “I think that how far our country has come that this is the law of the land now. I’m just ecstatic.”
In the Central Business District, same-sex couples got a chance to check out new hot wedding trends and meet venders at the “Decadence Says ‘I do’” event at The Chicory.
“It’s kind of like the first day of school for everyone, walking in and meeting all the vendors, and seeing The Chicory. Seeing all the decorations and what their reality could also be,” Frank J. Wingerter IV, a Southern Decadence Grand Marshal XLI and event organizer, said.
Organizers planned the event before the Supreme Court’s ruling came out.
“We were trying to imagine what the world would be like where everyone in our community, our gay community, could get married. Now we don’t have too imagine no more. Now it just became a reality.”
Venders say they’re already getting calls to help couple’s plan their weddings!
Event planner Tony Leggio said he thinks couples will come from out of state to say ‘I do’ in the big easy.
“I think we are a destination city now for brides, so now we are just a destination for anyone who wants to be married,” Leggio described.

“Start you’ve waited a long time. So, come on just start calling us we’d love to have you plan the wedding,” Leggio stated.
