Abita’s new ‘Bourbon Street Coffee Stout’ packs a punch that’s sure to satisfy!

COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) – “It blends really well with Bourbon notes and the natural flavors from the malt,” says Abita Brew Master Mark Wilson.

And Abita’s new “Bourbon Street Coffee Stout” is just that. There’s Bourbon, there’s coffee, and it packs quite a punch at 10 percent alcohol. It’s a drink to be savored and shared.

“We like to have the beers that are able to be consumed, that they’re not too strong, so the 10 percent range is pretty good,” says Wilson.

Abita’s “Coffee Stout” is the brewery’s latest and greatest concoction.

It’s part of their “Bourbon Street Series” that boasts beers aged up to two months in Bourbon barrels. Abita President and CEO David Blossman says that’s the secret, or one of them at least.

“It’s really interesting because they take on the characteristics of the Bourbon that are in the barrels and they also take on characteristics that are in the wood. A lot of times the beer will batch into the wood and out of the wood comes oak and vanilla,” says Blossman.

The Bourbon barrels come from the Buffalo Trace Distillery, and Abita uses Espresso Dulche beans from PJ’s Coffee.

It’s a dark and stormy stout that’s sure to become a Gulf Coast classic.
