NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – New Orleans police have made their first arrest in a fatal hit-and-run case.

Matthew “Fat” Cousan, was arrested Tuesday night and booked with obstruction of justice and accessory to manslaughter.

NOPD detectives said in an arrest warrant that Cousan helped hide and activity keep a woman thrown from the ATV away from investigators.

Daphne Cola was hit July 27 outside of a popular night club, located at the intersection of North Claiborne and Columbus Street.

Security video shows the driver lose control and flip his ATV several times before hitting Cola and a parked car. Investigators say he then fled the scene.

The 37-year-old mother of two was placed on life support and died nine days later.
