BATON ROUGE (WGNO) – The basement of the governor’s mansion has flooded.
The governor’s office confirmed tonight that there is some flooding. A spokesman would not say whether Gov. John Bel Edwards and his family have been evacuated.
Edwards returned to Louisiana Friday because of the historic flooding across South Louisiana that has killed two people and forced hundreds, if not thousands, of people out of their homes.
He declared a state of emergency this afternoon. More rain is expected, and a flash flood watch is in effect until Sunday morning.
Rivers in Southeast Louisiana are expected to crest Saturday morning, causing more flooding to homes nearby.
The Red Cross has opened more than a dozen shelters across the state. Curfews are in effect from dusk until dawn in Tangipahoa and Livingston parishes.
