NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) is investigating a crash that left a bicyclist dead on Tuesday, June 13.

NOPD officials said around 11:45 p.m. a bicyclist riding southbound on Marigny Street was hit by a car allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed driving westbound on St. Claude Avenue.

The cyclist, a 36-year-old man, was brought to a hospital where he later died.

The driver, 36-year-old Darren Mcintosh, was arrested at the scene and faces charges of negligent homicide and reckless operations of a vehicle, according to the NOPD.

NOPD officials said he may face additional charges once a toxicology report is complete.

The crash remains under investigation. The NOPD didn’t release any further details.
