Construction begins tonight on the Crescent City Connection toll plaza

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — It’s been three years since voters chose not to renew tolls on the Crescent City Connection, but  now the abandoned toll booths are finally coming down!

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will begin demolition of the defunct 12-lane toll plaza and reconfigure travel lanes, starting Monday, June 13th.  Lane closures and ramp closures will be made during the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Once the traffic controls are in place, the demolition work will be performed during the day, with contractors working behind concrete barriers.

During the course of the project, traffic patterns are expected to be shifted several times; but, once established will maintain traffic during construction from the elevated expressway and various ramps.

Work is expected to be completed in October 2016, pending any unforeseen circumstances.

The completion of the project in its entirety will accommodate the three lanes from the elevated bridge through the project site.  No ramps will be permanently closed, though adjustments will be made as to how and when they merge.  Additionally, the Terrytown on-ramp will be permanently reduced from two lanes to one.

All planned construction activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
