NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The New Kids on the Block perform Friday night at the Smoothie King Center. They’re not so new now, but we found a fan who remembers when they filmed one of their most popular videos in New Orleans.  News with a Twist’s Kenny Lopez takes us back to Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 in the Garden District.

“Oh oh oh oh oh!”

More than 25 years later, and that New Kids on the Block beat can still easily get stuck in your head.   For NKOTB fan, Sheri Mora—Jordan, Jonathan, Joey, Donnie, and Danny still got the right stuff after all these years.   Looking back Sheri almost got her chance to see the boy band up close and personal! The New Kids shot their music video for their 1988 hit, “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” in Lafayette Cemetery, No. 1, just blocks away from her house.

“I live in that neighborhood, that’s my cemetery.  That must’ve been a highlight for them to film in New Orleans and they get to run around above ground dead people,”  she said.

Another New Orleans sight you’ll recognize, the guys cruise by the Mississippi River bridge.

“The spirit of New Orleans , you can spot it,” Mora said.

When in the cemetery, Sheri’s getting back into the spirit of her teenage self.

WATCH here as Sheri and Reporter Kenny Lopez reenact the music video:

Sheri still believes the New Kids were so mega-popular because they’ve got the right stuff.

“I think they are an eclectic mix.  You have your muscle guy, your bad boy, your pretty boy,”   she said.

As Sheri gets ready for their big concert on Friday night, her heart’s hangin’ tough.

“We’ve grown up with them, so it’s like they are our guys.  We still have hope,” she said.

The New Kids on the Block have sold over 80 million records worldwide!

The Main Event tour with NKOTB, Nelly, and TLC hits the Smoothie King Center this Friday night at 7 p.m.   Tickets are still available.
