Don’t run with scissors or Blow Pops! Run with a fest chair!

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- Time to grab your fest chair and lace up your running shoes for The Big Easy/Big Heart 5K Race & Fest Experience on Saturday.

News with a Twist Reporter Kenny Lopez went to the race headquarters, Hard Rock Cafe New Orleans, where all the after-race festivities will be.

Mama always said, “Don’t run with scissors or Blow Pops,” but she never said anything about running with a fest chair, right?

Many of you probably have run with a fest chair to get to the best spot at the Acura stage or Congo stage during Jazz Fest, but this festival weekend, why not run through the streets of the French Quarter like Jennifer Neil with the New Orleans Track Club, for Saturday’s Big Easy/Big Heart 5K Race & Fest Experience? Neil’s also the race director.

“This race is unique because you actually get to run through the French Quarter streets and the Marigny,” she said.

For all you hard core runners, there’s the 5K race, and for the rest there’s the fest experience when you get to run with a fest chair and most likely a spiked beverage.  Running with a chair sounds like fun, fun that will help benefit the New Orleans Mission.

“The race is so important because it helps rescue sexually and emotionally abused women,”  Steven Scaffidi with the New Orleans Mission said.

Party headquarters for the race is the Hard Rock Cafe on Bourbon Street, where they truly do believe in the cause.

“Hard Rock Cafe loves to help and we’re excited to help out the Mission and abused women in our area,” Julie Sanford with Hard Rock Cafe said.

Hard Rock is helping in the best way they know how, and that’s through their delicious food and drinks.  Pastalaya and red beans & rice, along with specialty drinks, will be served at the race after-party.

Pre-registration lasts until midnight on Wednesday.  For more information and to register, click HERE.

WGNO-TV is sponsoring this event, so if you use the promo code TWIST16, you’ll get $5 off registration.

The 5K race begins at 8:30 a.m, followed by the Fest Experience at 9:30 a.m.
