UPDATE: The NOPD says two vehicles, a white Chevy Tahoe and a silver Toyota 4-Runner, were racing eastbound along Hayne at a high rate of speed when the two vehicles collided near Trapier Street.

Both drivers lost control and crashed into a store in the 9500 block of Hayne and flipped over.

The resulting crash left a debris trail 500 feet long, according to the NOPD.

Several occupants were seen fleeing the scene after the wreck.

The Chevy Tahoe was reported stolen from Downman Road around 10:30 p.m. on March 15.

NEW ORLEANS – An early morning fatal crash in New Orleans East resulted in one death and shut down traffic along Hayne Boulevard.

A chaotic accident near the intersection of Hayne Boulevard and Trapier Avenue left one person dead around 5 a.m., according to the NOPD.

At least one SUV could be seen demolished at the scene.
