NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — From New Orleans to the Academy Awards, this woman is showing that there truly is no stopping anyone who follows their dreams.
Hong Chau grew up in New Orleans East, the descendant of a Vietnamese family who fled a refugee camp in the 1970s. With the help of a NOLA church, they made their way to the city.
Chau later attended Ben Franklin High School and Eleanor McMain Secondary School, where drama students following in her footsteps feel her inspiration right here, right now.
Today, Chau is nominated for her work in The Whale, the story of a reclusive, morbidly obese man who never leaves home but is desperate to reconcile with his estranged daughter. Chau plays the man’s nurse and best friend, who serves as the character’s only connection to his life.
Nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, this is Chau’s first Oscar nod.
Catch the Academy Awards live from Hollywood’s Dolby Digital Theatre on Sunday, March 12 beginning at 12 p.m. right here on WGNO.
