NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Funeral arrangements for clarinetist Pete Fountain have been announced. The public visitation, funeral and second line will be held Wednesday, August 17 at St. Louis Cathedral.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. The funeral mass will begin at noon, and the second line will follow.

Fountain died Saturday morning at the age of 86.

He was known for his frequent appearances on the Lawrence Welk Show and the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued a statement on Fountain’s passing saying, “He was an inspiring performer, whose unmistakable sound defined out city’s unique cultural heritage. We have lost one of the jazz greats, but his music will live on forever.”
