UPDATE: The GiveNOLA Day website is working again, according to the Greater New Orleans Foundation. Donors have until midnight to give to their favorite nonprofits online. The 713 nonprofits participating in GiveNOLA Day also have printed pledge forms that donors can submit. Nonprofits have until Friday to turn them in to the foundation.
UPDATE: America is apparently being so generous for Give Local America that Give Local websites across the country – including the GiveNOLA Day website – are having problems accepting online donations.
The Greater New Orleans Foundation issued a statement at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, outlining the process for people to follow since the website is not working.
Gretchen Hirt, spokeswoman for the Greater New Orleans Foundation, said donations to the 700-plus area nonprofits still need to go through the Greater New Orleans Foundation system so the nonprofits can be eligible for Lagniappe Fund dollars.
Donating for GiveNOLA Day can be done in three ways:
- Call the Greater New Orleans Foundation at 504-598-4663. Note: Due to the high volume of calls, we may not be able to respond immediately. If you encounter this scenario, email your contact information to Lesley@gnof.org. We will contact you as soon as possible.
- Wait to donate online when GiveNOLA Day website is back up.
- Contact a participating nonprofit organization to fill out a pledge form (name, phone number, email, desired amount, organization donating to) that the nonprofit organization will remit to GNOF to verify and process.
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Tuesday is the day in which you can choose among more than 700 nonprofits from the New Orleans area to donate to as part of GiveNOLA Day.
Hosted by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, GiveNOLA Day is a one-day, online giving event that asks the community to come together and donate to some of the 713 nonprofits that are participating.
There’s something for everyone with GiveNOLA Day, with 10 categories ranging from animal rights to education to youth development and much more.
Last year, GiveNOLA Day raised more than $4 million thanks to 34,000-plus donations from around the country.
The event is tied to the national Give Local America campaign in which community foundations across America ask people to give back on the first Tuesday in May.

Earlier today, a big party was thrown with the 610 Stompers, Flashmob New Orleans, and St. Augustine High School’s marching band. News with a Twist Reporter Kenny Lopez was there. Take a look.
