NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- Happy 100th Birthday to the Prytania Theatre! At one time there were 80 neighborhood theaters, now the Prytania is the only remaining neighborhood theatre in New Orleans.
The Prytania has survived fires, hurricanes, and many movie stars have made special appearances at the theatre.
To celebrate it’s birthday today, they are showing “Gone with the Wind” and “Cinema Paradiso”for free, there will be a block party, and of course, free popcorn!
A patron party will take place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tonight will also be the local premiere of the new Clint Eastwood flick, “American Sniper”, which was just nominated for a “Best Picture” Academy Award.
The owner of the Prytania, Rene Brunet says it’s been a great 100 years and he is looking forward to the future.
“I hope and I think we’ve entertained everyone in New Orleans. I appreciate the patronage and I appreciate everything they’ve said. My heartfelt thanks goes out to all the wonderful people of the city of New Orleans,” Brunet said.
