Henry Glover Case: Last chance for justice?

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – 10 years later, a mother is still hoping for justice for her son who was killed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  On Thursday, Henry Glover’s mom and aunt met with the District Attorney.  WGNO reporter Deepak Saini shows us what’s next for Glover’s family.

“I want justice,” says Edna Glover.

A weary mother makes a plea.  Edna and Rebecca Glover arrived at the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office Thursday afternoon.

“I’m praying on it. I trust my God. He didn’t bring me this far to leave me alone. No he didn’t.”

Inside, the met privately with District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro.

“I told him to search his heart and I’m going to give it to God and I pray he does the right thing,” says Rebecca.

In the aftermath of Katrina, Glover was shot by former NOPD officer David Warren.  He was later burned and his body was found in a Chevy Malibu.  Last week, the coroner’s office reclassified Henry Glover’s death as a homicide.  Now Glover’s family wants the D.A.’s office to form a grand jury and charge Warren with murder.

“He gave us his word that he would look into everything and I’m going to take it at his word. I don’t have to but I’m going to. I’m just going to give him the benefit of the doubt, ” says Rebecca.

Warren was originally found guilty in Federal Court but later acquitted.  The case won’t be revisited again on a federal level, so for a mother who’s been fighting the long fight for nearly a decade, this is her last chance to press for a criminal charge.

“It’s real hard for me. It’s real hard for my whole family, especially his children. I’ll be glad when this is over with,” says Edna.

The Glover family says the D.A. did not make any promises on an indictment but says he has a lot of documents to go through and will call them in for another private meeting when he makes a decision.
