NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans City Council could have to vote again on whether to allow Entergy to build a new power plant in New Orleans East.
The first vote happened last year following a series of public meetings.
But after approving the vote, councilmembers found out that paid actors testified in support of the plan.
This morning, Orleans Civil Court Judge Piper Griffin ruled that was a violation of open meeting laws.
After finding out about the paid actors, the city Council decided not to revote.
Instead, it fined Entergy $5 million dollars.
It remains unclear if the city will appeal this morning’s ruling. WGNO reached out to a spokeswoman for the city and Mayor Cantrell and received a statement that reads, “This morning the Judge complimented the New Orleans City Council for having done nothing wrong, but expressed concern that Entergy undermined the process. The Court’s ruling will be evaluated for next steps in the coming days.”
