NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Summer vacation is just around the corner and some local organizations want to make sure your child knows how to swim!
The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation is partnering with the Ashley Marie Kelly Foundation, American Red Cross, and Tulane University to provide a free week-long swim program to anyone in the Pontchartrain Basin age 5 or older.
Lessons are being held at Loyola University’s Recreational Sports Complex, May 9-13. Classes are 40-minutes long and held at 5pm, 6pm, and 7pm.
Each swim class also includes a 5-minute session about environmental issues that affect the Pontchartrain Basin.
The free swim lessons honor the memory of Ashley Kelly, who drowned at Pontchartrain Beach in 2003.
