NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Fright-seekers head to The Mortuary Haunted Mansion for their Halloween attraction, but we’re telling you about the haunts behind the scenes in tonight’s “Living Among the Dead.”

Did you see that? Do you feel the hair sticking up on the back of your neck? Well at The Mortuary on Canal Street, the answers to those questions are most likely “yes.”

The Mortuary Haunted Mansion is a haunted attraction that’s really haunted, and one of nine ghosts who haunts the place was captured in this photograph.

Paranormal investigators tried to debunk the photograph and but were not able to. The ghost’s name is Ellie, and she’s 10 years old. You can clearly see the outline of her body and even see some facial features. Mortuary staff told WGNO that while she seems creepy, she’s a positive entity.

“It’s just unbelievable the stuff that happens when you don’t expect it,” says the owner of The Mortuary, Jeff Borne.

Ellie is not the only ghost to haunt The Mortuary. There are nine known ghosts, but Ellie and her brother Daniel are most prominent. The children died in a carriage accident on Canal Street.

“As far as experiencing real ghosts, there are things that I haven’t been able to explain that have happened here personally to me,” says Borne.

Borne purchased the building in 2007 and on his first day owning the property, a paranormal investigator stopped by and seemed as if he was talking to thin air. He claimed to be speaking to Daniel.

This encounter happened in the basement, where there was once an embalming room.  More than a century later, the original flooring and drainage are still in place. There’s also an original chimney stack that was used to cremate bodies.

“These entities so to speak that inhabit the house are here for a reason. I don’t know why but they are. People seem to enjoy it. They seem to love to try and make contact with somebody who has passed,” says Borne.
