Man finds his grandparents’ old travel photos, decides to recreate them 30 years later

A Philadelphia photographer wasn’t planning on traveling the country replicating his grandfather’s old travel photos —  it just kind of happened.

In October 2012, Christian Carollo found a box of slides from his grandfather’s trip to the Oregon Coast. One slide showed a small coastal town in Winchester Bay, Carollo says in his bio.

He happened to be traveling to that area the following week and decided to try and replicate the photo almost 30 years later. Carollo did and the Past Present Project was born.

Over the past three years, Carollo traveled across the country as he recreated dozens of his grandfather’s photos from the 70s and 80s.

Many photos, especially in New Orleans, feature landmarks virtually unchanged in three decades.
