NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The Orleans Parish School Board gained three new members tonight, and the Home Rule Charter amendment passed easily.

Leslie Ellison won the District 4 School Board election over Morris “Moe” Reed, Jr. and Walter Perique Umrani. Ellison took in 68 percent of votes cast.

In District 6, Woody Koppel beat out David Alvarez 53 percent to 47 percent. Nolan Marshall, Jr. took home the victory in District 7, defeating Kwame A. Smith and Alvin R. Crusto, Jr. with 54 percent of the vote.

The Home Rule Charter amendment, which designated financial and operational independence of the Office of Inspector General, Office of Independent Police Monitor, and Ethics Review Board, passed by a margin of 71 percent yes to only 29 percent no.
